I imagine those two as having a friendly rivalry with mutual respect and St. Louis is not against ceding the crown of queen bee escort once she ages out of the market, especially to someone who she feels deserves it with how well she’s able to bring in customers despite being a newcomer to the market. But far be it from her to just hand over her crown, of course.

Maybe at first she offered to teach Taihou some tricks of how the escort market worked because her less refined, experimental style wasn’t going to last forever (which would partially remove her initial market advantage, so it was somewhat calculated), but Taihou refused and just kept doing what she was doing because she the cool new kid on the block, although she doesn’t just totally discount St. Louis since she recognizes she had to be queen bee for a reason.

So when St. Louis starts ironically being experimental as she’s increasingly desperate to hold onto her queen bee position as I outlined above, and perhaps even starting to enjoy the freedom from the standards she held for herself as a high-end escort, it’s Taihou that stops her from crossing that last line by reminding her that she’s an escort, not a whore. That would probably also be a message that gets through if Taihou is also starting to learn upper-class mannerisms and being less openly experimental as she was before.

So St. Louis accepts that and tones things down, continuing to work as a well-respected escort until she voluntarily retires and unofficially endorses Taihou as the new queen bee “not that anyone needs me to say that”. At the end of it St. Louis got to expand her horizons on a personal level, while Taihou comes to settle into the standards of the market as she learns why things were the way they were, as exemplified by St. Louis herself.

I should take this to the writing thread.
