A true fact: LEGO only really needs four (maybe five) core themes to cover all the important bases: Space, Town, Castle, and Pirates. You could argue that Aquazone deserves a spot in the mix too, but these are the foundational themes that allow LEGO to achieve kino status once more—the peak of LEGO greatness.

Think about it: any other ideas people might dream up can easily fit into one of these categories. Want robots? That's Space, hands down. How about ninjas? That's a perfect match for the Castle theme. Looking for a cozy, everyday scene? Town has got you covered. Guns, adventure, and high seas? Pirates all the way.

In fact, LEGO figured this out back in the '90s. They understood that these themes were timeless and versatile enough to stay relevant across different generations. The real issue was that they overcomplicated things by creating too many specialized pieces—parts that could only be used in one set, and in some cases, only once. This made sets feel less flexible, and those unique pieces often ended up limiting creativity.

Instead of flooding the market with overly niche sets, LEGO would have done well by focusing on refining and expanding the versatility within those key themes. After all, it's these classic themes—Space, Town, Castle, and Pirates—that really allow LEGO to capture the imagination in the way that made them a global phenomenon in the first place.
