I think Calamity Ganon Phase 1 is really great mechanically and also challenging, but I hate the inverse difficulty you get with actually playing the main story through. Clearing out the Divine Beast boss-rush is fine but why the fuck did the game have to cut his HP in half? I really like you can go to Ganon any time but it would feel more rewarding if the payoff for 100%'ing the game was that you were simply more capable and ready to fight him at his hardest version. Instead you've over-prepared and he's nerfed into oblivion to the point where you easily cut through the first phase without truly experiencing it. I had better times with BotW when I did half-playthroughs and went to Ganon than the one where I really savored it to the end.
Also, TotK Ganondorf is fairly epic but all is ruined by the cinematically uninteresting interior look of the cave you're fighting in. I'll never understand why they didn't dramatize his 1-v-1 fight better. At least Calamity Ganon happens inside this "Astral Observatory" that has murals of all corners of the world inside it, to make the finale feel special. It reminded me of Majora's Mask's finale then. But Ganondorf in TotK is just surrounded by a sea of brown and red and it looks fucking terrible.
