The cat shelter scene was also different in the manga. Gwen realizes Kudo is the key after he's hanging out with him and one of the mahjong oji-sans. Kudo manifests a part of Kowloon he didn't know about when the oji-san tells his backstory. Then Gwen tells Kudo about the shelter, checks the teahouse, and sees the shelter when it wasn't there before.
