Because it BECAME that. When I was a kid these books were just stories about growing up and learning life lessons. Generic things like spending time with your grandparents or not eating too much junk food.

It's only as an adult that I saw the newer books in this franchise being released that had a CLEAR slant towards the Christian faith.
