Yeah, it's certainly a balance. If it's a character story, it shouldn't be all about helping some random npc, it should ultimately be about the character or it's a missed opportunity. But then the festival events act like (shipping?) fanservice where characters are randomly thrown into the same place so they can have a playground of interactions that maybe would work better if the time was used to advance the world and not just their friendship with other playable characters. I guess I just care more about the plot (and by plotting I mean concluding stuff, not just adding more and more open ends) than seeing a SoL with characters for half the story playing time.
