Where the shadows meet by Patrice Caldwell is a book about love, sacrifice and fate, they only say it about a billion times. I liked ideas in this book: hot black mermaids who dive for fate, vampire queendoms descendent from evil gods, & toxic relationships informed by familial trauma. But in execution, I can't say I cared very much for the characters or the overarching plot nor the romance. There isn't much subtly either, the author preferring to smack you with the messages she wants to impart. 4:10 needed more toxic abuse and less paint by numbers romance. It's also a duology so it ends of a cliffhanger.
