I gave up on pretty much everything above sustenance level because of this. If you can't even afford a house, even a small fixer-upper, you're effectively closed off from every other aspect of adulthood. So what really is the point? It's not even worth trying for anything else because it's meaningless without some stake in society and something that separates you from and indicates to women you are not a teenage boy.
