Unanimous vote. You're right. We are a genie, so that being a vote at all was stupid. We are high on the food chain. The ponies aren't, but they have you. While Equestria had a bunch of teenage mares with magical artifacts to save them, you ARE the magical artifact. Whatever adversaries you have will be purely limited to the upper echelons.
In regards to the "carry your own lamp" thing, in the first draft I was going to have you stuck in the cave until Dandelion found you while Anon went crazy from isolation. Amusing in concept, but I was worried it would have been boring. Ironically, people didn't really seem to enjoy the exploration anyway. Too directionless.
In regards to eating, yeah, we technically aren't material beings. Folklore still has them eating food left out by humans, though.
>Moving away from the creepy deer slowly and avoiding eye contact, you start to feel a searing pain, similar to a sunburn
Anon: "Ack, what's going on? What's this burning feel?"
>Hopeful looks really ashamed and guilty right now
Hopeful: "How did I forget to warn you? Stupid, stupid, STUPID! Ugh. Okay. Incorporeal beings don't really do well when exposed to sunlight. Considering you're one of the most powerful among them, it's not THAT big of a deal, but sorry, I think you might want to stay inside more often."
Anon: "Alright, rub if you need me."
>This is just like your old life
>You return to the lamp, which Dandelion takes
>You have the window and can hear things from the outside, so you'll be up to date on whatever happens
>The pain is still there, but it feels like it's subsiding very slowly
>Maybe you'll just read while stuff is going on.
>Muddy, colt-sized hoofprints lead in the direction of the fort, so Dandelion has faith that he went straight there
>As they leave, the deer stops at the brook, apprehensive about crossing, and returns to the foliage
>Half an hour later, the towers loom overhead, and the two stand on a hill overlooking the road, leading straight up to a ramp and stair combo into what's left of the gatehouse into Fort Peerless
>As the Sun now lies to the West, the stone brick walls and charred wood almost glow in the yellow-tinted light
>There are far more crows here than there were previously, in the trees that now cast long shadows
Hopeful: "Dandelion. Do you see that? Over the walls. Smoke. Somepony is in there."
How do we approach this? Remember, letting ponies decide things for themselves is always an option. The only true player character is Anon.
