A bunch of Vikings came and took over some Slavic tribes and quickly consolidated them into a country.
You could say that they became more and more Slavic eventually, since, well... there were only Slavs around and you need to fuck someone in order to procreate.
I don't actually enjoy the "Rus" part of Russian history. It was a bit of a mess the entire time, if I'm entirely honest. But it is what it is.
It has some cool moments, like Vladimir just randomly yoinking Crimea from Byzantine Empire, this forcing them to acknowledge him (they knew of Rus before, because Olga was quite the shrewd woman, but Vladimir actually got to marry a Byzantine princess as a result of his actions).
