And by God they sure deflected blame on anything, from shrubbery to "soviet tactics" to "inability to follow nafo tactics" to "not going around minefields".
I don't think there was any military blunder of that caliber in recent history, except maybe the Kursk adventure or the Krynky operations, which coincidentally have the same actors in play.
