I like the main story, it has some great moments, but they take a long time to update.
If you start now, I think F2P is doable, considering that Caleb is still kind of new. But that's only if you want just Caleb, if you have two favorites, it's impossible to stay F2P.
Caleb's birthday card is coming in June, so I’d recommend starting now to collect diamonds for it. Do keep in mind that the English localization tries to make him pass as a 'childhood friend' so for full niichan experience you would have to check translations or change to jap dub
