Copreus, once the finest actor in all of Hellas, dazzled audiences with his flawless imitations of high priests, kings, and even the gods! But his arrogance stirred the wrath of King Eurystheus, who cursed him to become what he truly was beneath the mask: an envious blob of nothing. Transformed into a writhing golem of filth and excrement, he now has the ability to assume any form he wants; handsome men of power, beautiful women of the night, even the beasts that crawl on their bellies or fly through the air. But he is only able to maintain the form for an hour or so before returning to a heaving, shapeless horror. Now forced to serve as the King’s mocking herald, Copreus bides his time, speaking honeyed lies through his borrowed faces, dreaming of the day when he’ll wear Eurystheus’s own skin in front of a crowd and bring the house down in blood.
