Ignore these shitters anon. Wand spec is a waste of talent points. The goal while leveling is to have the lowest possible time to kill on mobs.
If (you)'re having trouble getting smites out due to spell pushback, that tells us (you) aren't pre-shielding early enough before the pull to get a second shield, didn't start from max range, or (you) didn't drink before the pull started.
So we looked at the data. Gravestone Scepter from BFD (the best wand in the game in damage:level terms) is 29 dps, and let's assume (you) are using it at level 24. Smite rank 4 does 49 dps baseline (55 with 2/2 searing light), meanwhile muh wand is 36 dps and that's with investing 5 points into shitty wand spec.
(interlaces hands together) Now we also have to consider resisted damage, because in vanilla almost every wand's damage type belongs to a resistable spell school, plus epoch might have more inherent mob resist values that we don't know about. Meanwhile smite and holy fire damage can't be resisted. There's no holy resistance stat in the game. Add in the fact that your holy crit chance will be 10% from talents vs. a maximum of 6% crit for wands and it's not even close. Holy fire's damage is buffed on epoch which gives even more reason to rush for damage talents in the holy tree.
"But anon! Without wand spam, (you) have to spend SO much more time sitting and drinking! Even though my kills are slower and I have to waste more mana healing myself, wand spec is better, it just is! Trust me bro!" No.
Wand dps doesn't scale properly at all with levels anyway. By level 40, one hit from your wand counts for like 1% of the mob's total health. Hope this helps someone.
tldr: buy a window full of water from a mage every time (you) log in, and use (your) wand just to finish off mobs that are at ~5% health so five second rule regen is going by the time spirit tap procs. Try it and become enlightened.
