The combustion chamber extends from piston to valves. Horrific burn patterns and doesnt do well with high compression or forced induction.
There is no issue with interference but the consequences are shit for performance.
You can run overhead valves and not be an interference engine- its all dependent on combustion chamber shape/size and reliefs in pistons.
