In a standard damage system, you'd probably imagine something like "take damage until you reach critical threshold, at which point you get a certain stat debuff".
In 4e, EVERY point of damage you take inflicts that kind of a debuff.
And there's 30 different *types* of these debuffs.
To decide which one applies, the DM needs to either roll for it, or decide on it himself.
And also decide how much damage applies for the vehicle/pilot.
And also decide if the damage is physical/mental.
Just looking it makes me scream out "What the fuck were they thinking". I actually made a simplified damage system to cover for it. When such a basic mechanic gives me that sort of a reaction, you know something's off.
