Aliens all the way.
There's some plot stuff as to their origins that I don't want to spoil currently, but they're 100% extraterrestrial.
One of the things I wanted to do with Gigerians that I couldn't really get working in KK was have the Hansia species (pictured) have double jointed legs that basically "unfold" into digitigrade legs for running (and makes em look more alien of course). Maybe once I'm able to move on from Koi, I can finally do that in the Gigerian rework.
