The people of the british isles overwhelmingly descend from germanics- the bell beakers who first settled the islands and wiped out the neolithic inhabitants were genetically germanic, originating from the rhine area and clustering most closely with Norwegians
So the irish are germanic. More genetically germanic than most germans and than all austrians and swiss
