linen is a mid tier summer fabric at best. many cotton and wool weaves are more breathable and able to be woven thinner, and have a much better drape without wrinkling, and they're softer. linen's cool if you're going for the look but its not even close to the best textile for staying cool in the summer. one of the only advantages flax has as a fiber is its long staple length, but almost all flax in the world is processed with machines made for cotton so it gets cut down to the same staple length as cotton anyways. only a few places in the balkans still make linen on mills actually meant for linen.
i can't help but notice linen is being pushed by the fast fashion industry right now because its very cheap and inexpensive to produce. pic related, even when you go to depop it shills linen to you on the front page.
can't help but notice there's a thread every week about linen but i've never seen a thread about seersucker or tropical wool before.
you got marketed to. congrats on discovering the 8th or 9th best summer fabric but there's better stuff out there. nothing against linen, i wear it, but i don't get the hype for such a mediocre fabric.
