This one is partly hurt by the difference in focal length. They would look closer if the selfie on the right was shot with an 85mm. I think it's a factor in most of the comparisons posted. Most pictures taken after around 2010 are going to be cell phone. Phone camera lenses come in around 25mm or so, which introduces considerable distortion. 85mm is referred to as a "portrait lens" because that's around the minimum focal length required to remove all lens meaningful distortion. You can do portraits with longer lenses just fine, it's just awkward as the photographer has to stand further away from the subject.
