There never was. Brick has always meant "character I don't like". There are no true bricks because every unit has the tools to work if you invest in them.
The problem some tend to run into is that they will skip or simply not use a valid option because they don't like or have no interest in the character they'd have to use. It's a pretty unique problem in gachas that emphasize team building.
