All based reasons. Her Kingdra is a real fun fight. Water/Dragon so only one weakness to take and you don't have a lot of access to it, and with many trainers picking Cyndaquil as their starter it made even their strongest Pokemon a liability in that fight.
Of course, most kids were more displeased with Clair being a sore loser upon winning and focused on that.
