>“Hey Elric, how about a friendly little spar? Like the one we had back at Ithaca. I’d like to see just how much stronger you’ve gotten since then.”

“Tristain, are you sure that’s a good idea?” Cuthbert asks, eyeing you warily.

>“Of course it is. You can even act as the judge. We’ll begin on your count. That sound good to you, Elric?”

Elric nods approvingly. “Of course! I can’t pass up an opportunity to duel with you, Lord Tristain. I’ll give it my all!”

You were going to knock that sword out of Elric’s hands and see if anything came about it. If you used your Crest here, there was a fair chance that you might end up maiming the boy. Neither Alvin nor Nadia were here to help in the event of an injury, so you had to play it carefully. You planned to pull the full weight of your strength into knocking Mysteltainn out of Elric’s hands. If you did that, you could gauge his reaction and then assess the best course of action from there. You still didn’t want to touch that creepy thing though. Maybe you’d make Cuthbert do it instead.

You and Elric backup several paces away from each other. Unsheathing your Silver Axe, you get into position as you watch Elric square his feet. The last time you both did this, you’d knocked him on his ass with a single slap of your palm. Somehow, you got the impression that this time would not go as easily. Cuthbert looks nervous, but is smart enough to have caught on to your plan with a mere glance. Stepping in the middle of the space between you and Elric, he clears his throat, before backing up with a shout.

“Begin!”

You rush towards Elric like a charging bull, keeping your axe low to the ground. He was not expecting you to rush in like this, and he attempts to maneuver out of the way. You read his movements easily though. You get in the boy’s face, and then swing your axe up with all your considerable might. If you’d been aiming for his torso, you had no doubt that you’d have cleaved him in half. Instead, your target is Mystletainn. A loud clang echoes through the mountains as Elric meets your attack head on. You watch as the boy grits his teeth fiercely, arms bent back as he absorbs the weight of your blow. He holds onto his blade for dear life, before being sent flying into the side of a nearby boulder. The stone shatters with a resounding explosion as Elric shatters through the rock.

> “Oh shit!” You panic. That wasn’t supposed to happen. Why didn’t he let go of the sword?! Had you been mistaken? Was he dead?!

“Elric!” Cuthbert shouts, sprinting towards the pile of dust and debris Elric had exploded into. You rush to join him, when you instinctively stop in your tracks. You put up your guard as something lunges at you out of the cloud at blinding speed.

Mystletainn grinds against your Silver Axe with tremendous strength. Elric is attacking you, and the look in his eyes is one full of murderous intent.
