Several young women in China have been arrested for writing "gay erotica". At least 30 arrests have been made this year, mostly of women in their twenties, for content posted on Haitang Literature City, a Taiwanese writing platform.
Chinese authorities say that this constitutes the distribution of obscene material, which goes against the country's anti-pornography laws. Writers who profit off of this erotica could face up to ten years in prison, but some are getting reduced sentences if they hand over their "illegal earnings".
