That's still an awful lot. I live in the original US capital with a huge living history scene, and we only have like, four.

Where is local to you?

It really depends on what you're using it for: are you fighting as an individual, or are you fighting alongside others?
A shorter polearm between six and seven feet allows you to more easily maneuver between the blade and the butt spike, and control the battle space around yourself. This is more ideal for the individual combatant, and allows you to better maneuver the weapon against an armored opponent, or leverage the ends of the weapon while facing multiple components.
Longer poles of 7+ ft 2 years are harder to maneuver, and essentially make the butt Spike less relevant, but are more ideal for fighting in a situation where you are fighting alongside other in a melee situation, giving you the reach and positive control of the head, while not having to worry about knocking into your fellows with a butt spike.
My go-to on the subject is Di Grassi (pic related), who discusses the pros and cons, and the techniques of both. I think Silver does too, but fuck Silver. For harness fighting and HEMA, my taste is 6'5" from end to end. For SCA melee and LARP, I like 7'.
I will also tell you that you want to invest in a proper milled pole as soon as possible, rather than the tree branch /sapling you got the going there.
