Truth be told any metropolitan police department worth its salt would eventually probably get wind of this (either through direct observation or reports from other other officers on how they've seen them interact) and have to step in to issue them new partners.

This sort of fraternization isn't conducive to functional police work. There's way too much potential for personal feelings becoming a factor in how they conduct themselves on the job.
