Couldn't sleep last night. Kept hearing the song she sang in my head. it's 05:50 where I am, didn't manage to get more than about 40 minutes according to my watch.

It wasn't even her favourite song, it was just what she felt like singing whilst I plodded across the sand. I had a backpack full of drinks and snacks and a big heavy blanket her grandma gave us. She was so excited because it was something she never got to do. The weather was perfect for it. It was about a 90 minute drive for us and she was so concerned because I'd gotten up at 3am to drive from my house to Holyhead where you catch the ferry from England to Dublin, then another hour and a half to her house. I'd usually catch the later ferry but I really wanted to spend the entire day with her. I must have looked a little tired and I was drinking off-brand monsters. I was really just excited to spend the day at the beach. We collected seashells and sea glass, a little seaweed and yellow reeds, a little bag of sand... She thought I'd left them at the beach, but I was putting everything we found into my coat pockets and when I got home I bought a glass jar and arranged a little diorama for her to give her as a gift the next time I saw her. She loved it. Not sure what happened to it after she passed. I'd have liked to have kept it to remind me of her, but I'm sure it's more meaningful to her family and I already have the memories.
That day at the beach was perfect. She insisted that I take a little nap before we got up to leave and I played along but I've never been able to sleep when there's natural light around, I closed my eyes and let her put my head in her lap and let her stroke my hair. She leaned down to kiss me and of course I kissed back. I opened my eyes to her smiling down at me and she said "I wish you'd let me baby you anon." and tickled my cheek.
She fell asleep in the car as I drove home. I carried her back into the house.
