Masuda only said that shit about "smartphones" and "haha I don't know" or "don't set you hopes too high" during ORAS/SM time, aka when Ohmori started to take over in directing. Ohmori then proceeded to treat pokemon as a retard-gloves theme park about his childhood family trauma and alternate dimensions for some reason. He doesn't care about the pokemon, he doesn't care about the adventure, he doesn't care about the lore or how the game plays or anything like that. It isn't unreasonable to think Masuda was only falling in line with this retard.
I haven't played ORAS, but I haven't liked a single one of his other games, and it amazes me people don't point to him more often
