Your missing the part where violence is an accepted way of bringing that change about. Jihad means war. Total rejection of the thing you are trying to change up to destroying it.
Once jihad is declared it is the Muslim duty to expel its existence by any means necessary. That doesn't mean violence HAS to be the solution. But it's the solution often enough that the terms are synonymous.
