The weakened Lord took a moment to catch his breath as the monster hurled itself at Eadric and Maragon. The woman screaming in the background was surely coming from inside the room, but she was invisible from the doorway. The monster made a wide swing at Eadric and Maragon - Eadric narrowly avoiding being bisected while Maragon put up a magical shield at the last moment. The Lord struck the beast in the back, prompting it to reflexively kick backwards like a horse and sending the Lord crashing into the room's furniture. The invisible woman let out another cry as the sound of wood and bone snapping roared through the room.
The monster was now solely focused on Eadric and Maragon. Maragon cast a spell aiming to turn the monster's sword into a puddle of hot iron, but the creature maintained it's grip and struck Maragon with the broad end - sending him flying off the balcony. Maragon cast a spell to allow him to levitate, creating the illusion that the beast's attack had been ineffective. The monstrosity stared at Maragon, clearly intending to leap and try to slam him out of the sky. Maragon recognized the look and shouted for Eadric to get into position.
As the beast leapt off the balcony, it was struck from both sides with blasts of arcane power that froze it in mid-air for only a moment. It dropped it's heated sword - which happened to land upright as it drove itself into the floor, and the beast fell impaled on it's own scorching blade.
Maragon returned to the balcony and caught his breath, thanking the gods for Eadric's quick thinking and coordination. Maragon passed out seconds later, a deafening silence coming over the room. When Eadric turned, he was greeted by the Lord's only progeny: a black-haired woman by the name of Anasia.
Anasia asked if Maragon was dead, to which Eadric confirmed he was still breathing. Anasia told Eadric her father was dead, and she rushed into his arms as she sobbed - barely even thinking to thank him.
