The 2.98mm looks almost impossibly thin and basically 2d. The 4.5mm small seconds adds just enough heft to break that illusion. The seconds complication is nice, but not worth the 1.5mm thickness tradeoff in my opinion. To my eye, the aesthetics are similar enough to not factor into the decision, but I appreciate you sharing a contrary opinion and I do take it heart. That said, I find the cermet/altic composites interesting and exotic which adds an extra element not present in a simple steel case reference.
