The blocks themselves do look different, and that's definitely a positive in its favor. But part of the issue is how distinct the individual pieces are which makes you far more cognizant of the fact that you're looking at the same thing for four rooms in a row. The layout also got changed to actual room blocks which significantly cut down on the labyrinthine aspect, which isn't really a positive.
I can't say it's entirely their fault, it's clear that at least more than the bare minimum of effort was put in, but the result isn't necessarily better.

I don't think they're dumb enough for that. There's a bigger chance of it being a localization issue than Atlus actually making the changes in development.
