Personally I was more impressed by how the romance was handled than by the space shit.
You get all the usual angst, conflicts, melodrama
but none of the retarded justifications for them (stupid love triangles or comically evil step families, retarded amnesia, dumb serial killer lurking in the background etc.)
Just two people with their own flaws and opposing set of beliefs systems, still falling in love through shared interests and trying to make it work.
Also the soul crushing ending felt earned for once, and thematically coherent. Not just a last minute 25/21-like cop out.
