The SH fans are the ones who told the story of the Sh series, and to them each game was amazing blockbusters, and for some reason evil konami pulled the plug on the series. Sh2 more or less killed the momentum for the series, and I'd argue that it has a horrible opening that doesn't draw in most people, and most people tuned out on SH3 as well.
Notice that Sato doesn't say how much Sh2 sold? I think it was like half of 1. That's why Konami cut the budget for 3-4 by making them at the same time.

On replays I love Sh2's opening, and it's moody and it's very cinematic and has great atmosphere. It is NOT goign to draw in most people though. The game feels kinda directionless until you get to Rosewater Park and meet Maria.
