As you depart the briefing, managing to beat the crowd through your solid choice of a rear seat near the exit, Crane dips his head in a subtle show of respect.

"The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack."

“Huh?”

“Rudyard Kipling.”

“Eh?”

“It is from a book.” Crane’s eyebrow twitches at your non-plussed look. “Not too far from what you were trying to say to the others back there.”

“Oh.” You’ve heard of wolves, an old Earth predator that hunted together. You only have the Cradle to compare it to, but from what little you know if you crossbred a wolf and a jaguar, then crammed it with spikes and juiced it to the eyeballs with slaught… then maybe you’d have something looking like a Vinehound. “The book is called Rudyard?”

“No. He is the author. The book is called ‘The Jungle Book’.”

“Jungle? No scud.” You turn to your Second, now genuinely interested. “What’s it about?”

“Hmm. Trust me…” Crane was never one for smiles, which is why you find the upward crinkle in his lip somewhat shocking. His evasive answer is somewhat less surprising, and all the more infuriating for it. “I have a feeling that you would very much relate to it.”

Dis’ sun is now well towards setting, though the world’s comparatively slower orbit makes those dusks and dawns last quite a while. Same for the day and night cycle, which has taken some adjustment of its own for everyone’s sleep schedule.

The League of Dis War Council will be on soon, and you have your marching orders from the LT as to what is expected at you for your appearance. You probably only have time for one errand or visit before it gets underway.

=====================================

> You head to the observation point uphill, to get a look at the Savis frontline closing in. Some of your squaddies should be wrapping up there with the shift change, and Sharky did recommend that you see it for yourself. Things must have changed since you last went hunting, and likely not for the better. [Observation Post]

>You follow after Wasp, looking to get his ear ahead of the War Council. He’ll likely be the only other Company face present there, it would help to present a united front. But also the man is in deep with the rebels, its part of his job, but it couldn’t hurt to check in with him after having to sit through the betrayal of his baby rebels now not just implied but being planned out. [Contact Wasp]

>You head to the League of Dis headquarters early, to meet and greet any others already there. Alexander Hail and his Red Hand militants are a known factor, but the League is a collection of dozens and scores of disparate groups and cells. The Auxl ‘Breaker’ may be the overall leader, but it will help to get fully across who is who n this zoo before the War Council gets underway. [Early War Council]
