The "Brazilian People" are a sad bunch. No clear identity, no real culture to cling to. Our media and state constantly banging on our heads that the only "Brazilian Culture" is a mix of what comes from Rio and Northeastern states. Not that those cultures are inherently bad, but they're almost completely incompatible with the countless other cultures and peoples from other regions. The only thing holding it together is the thin thread of Portuguese language, which gets further apart with each passing decade, as dialects evolve. It's the weak link between all peoples of Brazil.
Come to think of it, there's no such thing as "A Brazilian". When you ask foreigners to picture a Brazilian in their head, each answer will be wildly different (racially and culturally), depending on what facet of the so-called Brazilian Culture they've been exposed to.
Besides that, our imported politics and behavior from the Global North is curbing whatever culture is left in all regions.
This leads to the confusion seen in the OP image. The youth doesn't feel like they belong anywhere, because they've been led astray and away from their own local cultures by the state (via schooling) and media. These "am I X?" questions weren't common even 15 years ago around here. People knew what and who they were.
