>in the dess(?) files she's in the depths for what feels like an eternity before she hears the scratching
>in Ralsei's description of Darkners, he describing experiencing pitch black, and then things getting even darker than that, until your start to see (and hear) things
>Gaster was experimenting with darker than dark, and had achieved negative amounts of photons (anti-photons?). Presumably his next experiment would have been to go even further beyond
>naturally, the depths are even darker than the dark world. For a regular darkner entering the depths it would probably be the same as a lightner entering the dark world, including undergoing a new transformation. For darkners, it would be like Kris et all transforming into the heroes when they enter the dark world. They still know who they are and mostly look the same but gain new powers and insights while there. For lightners, the transformation could be much more extreme
I think 'Friend' is what a lightner becomes after spending enough time in the depths to experience the reality shift. After what seems like an eternity alone, you realize there are others with you, that you have friends with you in the dark^3, other lightners that were trapped in the depths and underwent the same transformation.
and I think for anyone that's seen what's in the depths, lightner or darkner, this insight, this change of perception, sticks with them even after they return, and is represented by the magenta and yellow eyes.
And even go further and say that these Friends, these Depthners, want to trigger the roaring because it plunges both lightners and darkners into the depths, and they get more friends. Yaaay. Which is probably how most of them ended up there in the first place. And to Depthners, the depths are heaven, a paradise where you can do anything and you can be anything, and it's just you and your fellow Friends together forever
