If the Sun Belt goes to sixteen members, going to a nine game conference 3+6 schedule would be ideal. Otherwise with eight team divisions, you play seven division games round robin and then only one or two teams from the other division, meaning it could be as long as sixteen years between an at home game against a cross division opponent. And that's not even accounting for any cross division rivals that need to be permanent. Four pods of four teams and other alternatives also could be considered.
If the Sun Belt takes three from CUSA and with UTEP going to the Mountain West, CUSA goes down to six full football members, meaning with Missouri State and Delaware joining, they will get back to the minimum of eight members. The American getting raided could end up making a AAC/CUSA merger more likely. Or maybe the AAC raids CUSA, once again putting them below the eight member mark.
