At the beginning of the 20th century, a flock of Parisian clubs such as Gallia Club, Standard Athletic Club, Club Français, Cercle Athlétique de Paris, etc. dominated French football until the First World War, which of course brought competitive football to a halt. With the end of the war, football made a comeback, followed shortly afterwards by the emergence of professionalism. It was a schism for French clubs and only Stade Français, Red Star and Racing Club de France managed to make the transition. These clubs remained relevant for some time and even survived the Second World War before falling into oblivion in the 1960s. It was in this context that PSG was created in 1970.
Nowadays, Stade Français no longer has a senior team, Racing Club de France plays in the 5th division and Red Star yo-yo between the 2nd and 3rd divisions. There is also Paris 13 Atletico, a relatively new local club trying to survive in the third division. And then there is Paris FC, PSG's cursed brother, who have finally been promoted to Ligue 1 after years of failure, but they are an empty shell and nobody cares.
