The promise was made to Abram\Abraham, not Israel. The "jews" are not the spiritual seed of Abraham because they wholeheartedly reject Jesus Christ as the messiah. Israelite's are those who accept Jesus Christ as their Messiah and King, and they are currently scattered around the world. They are not by default people who currently live in the land of Israel.
