Just to expand a bit more, the male MC is a mix of Itami from Gate and Sasahara from Genshiken, the FMC twins are a mix of various characters, one is like Haruhi Suzumiya and the other is a mix of Hikaru from Rayearth that is tomboyish, and Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi as she eats a lot. The youngest son in the American family is a bit like Lincoln Loud as he monologues a lot of the situations he's in, but he does it since he is recording it on a phone for posterity in case something happens, it makes it seem like he is breaking the fourth wall, and a few more characters, the the twin that is like Haruhi has a childhood friend who looks like a boy next door type with a cutesy face that has a crush on twin but she is oblivious to him, but various people both female and male(since he is cutesy he can be mistaken for a girl), both in the portal(except for the bear portal) or in Japan lust and stalk him, another character is the classmate of the American boy who is an expy of Ronnie Anne who is half Hispanic and half Caribbean that picks on him to get attention and hates it when the boy's attention is elsewhere, the other is a girl 4 years older than the boy is an expy of Goo from Foster's Home that is hyperactive and the boy is only friends with her due to his activist brother's insistence, which is the reason the Ronnie Anne expy is jealous.
