Because the Jews killed Him. It's important to understand the history of the situation in order to comprehend the significance of how blind they were to reject Him. Their own Psalms hymn Him, their own Law prefigured Him. Even Jesus' own disciples didn't recognize the full significance of His identity as the Messiah and variously denied Him, until He opened their mind and the Holy Spirit descended upon them at Pentecost.
