Yeah I guess in Japan anime and anthropomorphization is a lot more mainstream regularly appearing in advertisements and the like. I still was imagining an old japanese farmer getting a letter saying sorry for your loss with pic attached and being completely confused but yeah they all signed the rights and stuff for the horses so they probably understand the bare minimum of the concept.
