from my experiences, I would guess that it's more like the ayys are putting you under anesthesia. I assume for their own reasons, but possibly also because it would be traumatizing to your psychological health. Suddenly seeing and experiencing things outside of your comprehension has affected many people severely, leading to depression or obsession, even though the experience itself was not negative in nature.
