China is closing the gap quickly, faster then anyone wants to admit, but it is insane to say the gap isn't still there. As it sits a war between the US and China would be the most the brutal stalemate in military history. Chinese cities would be flattened at the cost of ending the entire US global order due to the sheer amount of casualties the Chinese Rocket Force would inflict on the US Navy. The winner would be Russia, not the US or China. People can talk about flooding China or cutting off its food supply, but China stockpiles a year's worth of grain at any given time now and has since covid. They could survive a year long blockade without food much better then we could survive without their rare earth metals. Could we blow up some dams and flood much of the country? Sure. It's also true that all these DNA services like 23andme are massively funded by and supply shit tons of genetic data to the CCP and they have been caught multiple times operating labs on US soil. Use your imagination to wonder what might be unleashed on US soil if we maintained a blockade around China. China lacks America's nuclear arsenal and it is not even close, so I would expect the mountains of funding China puts into genetic research and biological weapons to serve as their nuclear alternative. It's not like a bioweapon could spill over and effect China if we are maintaining a blockade of traffic around China, right?
