Wuwa began as a game that had a heavily technological aesthetic, so all of the zones and 1.x+ characters are designed with this in mind. The problem for hoyo comes with consolidating the pre 5.x characters and zones with what is becoming and extremely technological design philosophy. Characters like Jean will feel out of place when compared to characters who will probably end up wielding Catalyst miniguns and jetpacks.
I could say more with regards to the overall pre 5.x view of tech, which I'd class into archeotech. Yes, we know the Genshin world is a post-collapse society where technology was ostensibly extremely advanced, but the way it is presented in game is more as mythical and magical than technological. There is mystery in it. I'd also class the way Archons and even the shades no longer feel like super powerful god-like entities, but more just really powerful dudes in a big spaceship. A lot of the pre 5.x is essentially obsolete design wise.
