Some. The budget per minute must have gone up, plus the studio was more experienced, which is noticeable. Some character designs were revised (seriously, I found tanikaze unrecognizable at first, picrel) but most others' stayed the same, which was somewhat jarring. Sidonia must have not been nearly as successful as they hoped, so they couldn't get a S3 greenlit. Considering it took them 6 years to release the movie, we're lucky it wasn't canned entirely. Still, I think the battles were good, and they also kept most of the important parts in. Disappointing in the sense that we didn't get a full fledged final season, but still worth watching.
