A: Normally each of the five branches send out one unit, so a total of five units.

A: Basically there are three shifts for the five units sent out. Defense missions are done at a once every two days frequency. However some unit agents are bored or want more pay so they organize「mix units」that go on missions once every three days. Also, Reiji, Konami, Jin, and General Manager Shinoda all count as one unit each.
