In SV1, the act of evolving stuff doesn't implicitly give things +2/+2 and rush. That's just what overwhelming majority of followers get when they evolve. There were a number of cards that do not get any bonuses to their attack and defense stats when evolving.

Just a reminder to check the fine print when adding cards to your deck.
