Not really, people are just coping about it because for some reason, the simple idea of the character they're playing as getting cucked (even if it's technically not even the same person) makes them seethe.
The entire plot of Subaru's events is that he's trying to intentionally push (You) away not only because he doesn't want you to feel obliged by your past betrothal but also because he feels like he doesn't deserve to be by (You)r side after everything he did in the story (i.e the whole wanting to purify azuma by resetting it even at the cost of everybody's lives plus being revived and forgiven afterwards. he doesn't trust the other villagers enough to believe that they wouldn't throw rocks at (You) if they figured it all out.)
He's just trying harder to come off as composed and lives with the pain for (You)r sake.
